Responding to a Scottish Government announcement that an expert in mesh implant removal looks set to come to Scotland, Neil Findlay MSP said:

“This a promising sign, and we will continue to ask questions of the Scottish Government until this visit by Dr Veronikis to Scotland is a done deal. We have only come to this point because of the active campaigning of Scottish mesh survivors in securing media coverage and sustained parliamentary pressure.

“Hundreds of women have had their lives ruined by mesh implants. This move would mean women no longer have to travel abroad for full mesh removal, and that other medical professionals could be trained in the procedure here in Scotland.

“Meanwhile, whilst questions remain over the involvement of members of the short life working group in plans to re-introduce mesh in Scotland, the Health Secretary should immediately publish minutes of their meetings to restore confidence.”
