Commenting on the independent review of the Scottish Government's Cleaner Air for Scotland strategy, Scottish Labour Spokesperson for Environment, Claudia Beamish MSP, said:

"I welcome the many of the recommendations, and urge the Government to give air pollution its due attention as an invisible killer.

"Air pollution jeopardises the health of vulnerable communities in Scotland.

"For their sake and the climate emergency, we must indeed be more robust in supporting moving to more sustainable transport modes."

Scottish Labour Spokesperson for Transport, Colin Smyth MSP, said:

"The report lays bare the utter neglect of public transport under the SNP.

"Bus and now rail passenger numbers are plummeting so for many people they have little alternative to the car.

"We need radical solutions if we want to reverse that decline.

"Labour will give local councils the power to run local bus services to stop the cuts and bring our railways under public control, so we have a transport system that put passengers not profits first.

"We would also build on the success of Labour's free bus pass for older people by extending it, starting with young people."
