Commenting on the news that the UK Government has been found to have acted unlawfully, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Lesley Laird MP, said:
“Today’s judgment confirms what many have been arguing - that Boris Johnson’s decision to shut down Parliament at a time of national crisis was unlawful.
“Rather than waste more public funds on appealing today’s ruling, the U.K. Government should accept that they have been found out.
“At this time of national crisis, I pay tribute to all of those who have worked cross party in Parliament and in the courts to send the message that we will not stand by as our democratic structures are eroded.
“Parliament must be recalled.
"Boris Johnson is not above the law and Labour will not stand for his elitist shutdown of parliament designed to enable him to dodge scrutiny and force through a disastrous No Deal Brexit.”
