The next UK Labour government will save free TV licences for almost a quarter of a million Scots who are set to lose it from next year.
The Tories pulled the funding available to the initiative, leaving the BBC to pick up the pieces under a new charter agreement. From 2020, only those on pension credit aged over 75 will qualify for a free licence.
Analysis by the House of Commons Library shows 240,010 households in Scotland were set to lose their licence thanks to the Tories.
Labour can announce today that this cut will be reversed, making it even more important for Scotland to elect a Labour government on December 12.
When Labour wins, Scotland wins.
Shadow Scottish Secretary, Lesley Laird, said:
“Labour will protect free tv licences for over-75s.
“This will mean almost a quarter of a million households in Scotland will see their licences saved.
“This election is a straight choice between a Tory government that will impose more cuts or a Labour government that will invest in people, services and our communities.
"Scotland can deliver a knockout blow to Boris Johnson's hopes of being Prime Minister by voting for Labour at the General Election.
“When Labour wins, Scotland wins with free TV licences for all over-75s saved.”
